Picpoul and Piquepoul: Between Appellation and Grape variety
Le Picpoul de Pinet :
It is a protected designation of origin (PDO), located in a precisely defined region in the south of France, in Hérault, and concerns six municipalities : Pinet, Pomérols, Florensac, Mèze, Castelnau-de-Guers , and Montagnac. This proximity to water generates a saline influence that gives it its unique character. It's a wine that stands out for its citrus notes, white flowers, ans pronounced minerality, due to favorable exposure for its development.
Le Piquepoul :
Originating mainly from the Languedoc region, this grape variety is widely cultivated in the south of France. The Picpoul blanc grape variety is beneficial for the Picpoul de Pinet appellation. It's a grape variety that comes in gray and black versions, the latter having disappeared over time, although they are also traditional grape varieties of Languedoc. It's a grape variety endowed with natural acidity and freshness that promotes the creation of a dry white wine in perfect harmony with seafood and fish-based dishes.
